Position Title:    Homebound Teacher

Department:      Special Services         

Reports To:       Director of Special Services

FLSA Status:     Exempt

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility is to provide instructional resource services on an as need basis for students who are homebound during the school year. The homebound teacher would also collaborate with the classroom teacher(s) in gathering work assignments, assessments, and potential projects of instruction for the identified student(s). The homebound teacher provides instruction for approximately one hour per day (or the amount of time determined through the IEP process) at the home (or other alternative off-school site as may be determined) of a student who cannot attend school.

 

Qualifications:

  • Candidate should have a current South Carolina teacher license.
  • Experience as a teacher required.
  • Possess strong communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with others and willing to take direction and be flexible.

 

Salary: (Non-Contract Pay)

  • Homebound Teacher - $25.00 per hour

Workday:

  • This is a part-time, temporary position. The total number of work days and times will vary based on student needs and the homebound funds available.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

 Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education. Experience as a classroom teacher. Retired teachers are encouraged to apply.

 

Knowledge/ Skills/Effort:

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and state, statutes, rules, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of a variety teaching methods and techniques to promote student growth.
  • Facilitation of successful meetings to accomplish all IEP responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of and provision of (Free and Appropriate Public education) FAPE to students with a disability as required by federal, state and district requirements.
  • A working knowledge of accommodations and modifications to appropriately meet student needs.

 

Working Conditions:

  •  Working with one or more students and providing instruction within a home or alternative setting. 

 

Responsibility:

  • Following the lesson plans and/or instructions given by current teacher.
  • Reinforcing concept/skills, monitoring student progress, assisting with discipline and assisting with the planning process for students with 504/IEPs.
  • Adapting to instructional programs under the direction of a teacher to fit individual needs of students, i.e., using an array of instructional aids and equipment.
  • Assisting in monitoring compliance with IEPs and other student management systems as directed.
  • Participating in appropriate in-service training.
  • Other duties as assigned to support student success.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Williston School District 29.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

 

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on an as needed basis an entire school year.  Conditions of employment are adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually according to Board Policy.
